Seven-time European champions AC Milan could earn up to €58m in total if they make it to the round of 16 in this season’s Champions League. This is according to the report from the stables of Calcio e Finanza.
The financial breakdown revealed that Milan will earn €15.64m as participation bonus, while a further €17.1m would be earned by the Rossonerifor their historical ranking. It was also stated that AC Milan are entitled to €6m from the market pool.
Milan have a big job on their hands if they are to qualify for the next round of this season’s Champions League via Group B. They need to beat Liverpool in their last group game to have any chance of making it through to the round of 16.
The former winners have themselves to blame for a poor Champions League group stage campaign till date. Milan started Group B with two straight losses against leaders Liverpool and Atletico Madrid before a poor return of one point over the two matches with Portuguese team FC Porto. At the end of the first four games in their group, AC Milan were last on the group standings with one point and four points off FC Porto in second place with two games left to play.
Atletico Madrid were slight favourites ahead of their home duel with Milan on Wednesday, but they didn’t stop the Rossoneri from winning the game to boost their qualification hopes for the Champions League knockout stage. As at three years ago, Milan star Junior Messias was not a professional footballer, but the Brazilian player has done well for himself to get to the point where he came off the bench to score the winning goal on 87 minutes to lead Milan to an impressive 1-0 away win over Spanish champions Atletico Madrid.
AC Milan will need to beat a Liverpool team who have won all their five Champions League games in their last group game to have a chance of making it to the next round.
